Saturday 24 October is packed for South African football fans. Four Premier League games run from lunchtime into the evening, and at home the Carling Knockout round of 16 takes centre stage while the PSL Premiership takes a short break. Here is what to watch, with every kick-off time in SAST.
Premier League: Saturday fixtures (SAST)
- 13:30 Aston Villa v Manchester City

- 18:30 Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur
The day opens with the biggest test on paper. Villa have made their home ground a hard place to visit, and City will want all three points. Expect City to see most of the ball, with Villa looking to hurt them in transition. In the 16:00 slot Arsenal host Everton, a fixture the Gunners usually control at home, while Coventry welcome Fulham in a game that could matter for both clubs come May.
The evening belongs to London. Chelsea against Spurs is a derby that rarely stays calm, and both sides come in wanting a statement result before the November international break. Note that Liverpool v Brighton was moved to Sunday 25 October at 16:00 SAST after Brighton’s European fixture.

Carling Knockout: last 16 at home
The Premiership calendar sets aside Saturday 24 October and Tuesday 27 October for the Carling Knockout round of 16, so there is no league football this weekend. The cup’s one-off format means a single bad half can end a season’s best shot at silverware, which is why coaches often field strong sides even with a big league weekend coming. League action returns on Friday 30 October when Marumo Gallants host Siwelele at Royal Bafokeng Stadium (19:30). Then on Saturday 31 October Orlando Pirates face Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium at 15:30, the fixture the whole country stops for. Chiefs head in after a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch, while Pirates will want to make home advantage count. We will preview the derby in full later in the week.
