Gambling is entertainment with a cost, not a way to make money. Here’s how to stay in control, and where to get free, confidential help.

Our promise

Betshezi is licensed in South Africa and supports the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP). Under-18s may not register or gamble. Every account is verified. We train our team to recognise signs of harm and to respond with care.

Signs gambling may be a problem

Spending more money or time than you planned. Chasing losses. Borrowing money, or using money meant for rent, food or school fees, to gamble. Hiding gambling from family. Feeling anxious or irritable when you’re not gambling. If any of these sound familiar, talk to someone. Help is free.

Tools in your account

Deposit limits: cap what you can deposit daily, weekly or monthly. Decreases apply immediately, and increases have a cooling-off period. Time-out: take a short break from your account. Self-exclusion: block access for a longer period. During self-exclusion you won’t receive marketing. Reality checks: reminders of how long you’ve been playing. Find these in your account settings. Support on betshezi.com can also help once you’re signed in.

Free, confidential help: NRGP

The National Responsible Gambling Programme offers free counselling and treatment across South Africa. Call the toll-free helpline 0800 006 008, available 24/7, or visit responsiblegambling.org.za.

Tips for safer play

Set a budget before you start, and treat it as the cost of entertainment. Set a time limit. Don’t gamble when you’re upset, stressed or after drinking. Never chase losses. Balance gambling with other activities. Remember that bonuses come with terms, so don’t deposit more just to meet wagering.

Protecting minors

Gambling under 18 is illegal in South Africa. Keep your login details private, and use parental-control software on shared devices. If you think a minor is using an account, tell support on betshezi.com straight away. More info: FAQ and terms.

Supporting a friend or family member

If someone close to you is struggling, talk to them calmly and without blame. Encourage them to call the NRGP on 0800 006 008, where counsellors also support affected family members. You can help them set up deposit limits or self-exclusion, but avoid lending money for gambling. Look after yourself too. Support is available for families as well.

Gambling and money

Keep gambling money separate from money for essentials. Never use credit, loans or savings to gamble. If you notice you’re spending more each month, set a lower deposit limit today, because decreases apply immediately.

Self-assessment: quick questions

Ask yourself honestly: Have I bet more than I could afford to lose in the last year? Have I needed to gamble with larger amounts to get the same excitement? Have I gone back another day to try to win back money I lost? Have I borrowed money or sold anything to gamble? Has gambling caused me stress or anxiety? If you answered yes to any of these, it’s worth a free, confidential call to the NRGP on 0800 006 008.

Security you can check

Look for the padlock in your browser bar and make sure the address is betshezi.com before you log in. Use a strong password that you don’t use anywhere else. Never share an OTP. Betshezi staff will never ask for it. If you receive a message claiming to be from us that asks for money or login details, report it to support on betshezi.com and delete it.
