Carling Knockout Cup – What You Need to Know
The Carling Knockout Cup promises fierce competition as all 16 top South African football teams vie for the coveted Carling Knockout trophy. This tournament sets the stage for the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup, scheduled to take place on January 6, 2024, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Tournament Overview
The competition includes all 16 clubs currently participating in the DSTV Premiership.
Matches are single-elimination, decided by a knockout system.
In each match, the club scoring the most goals progresses to the next round.
If both clubs score the same number of goals, extra time (15 minutes each way) will be played. If it remains level after extra time, penalty kicks will determine the winner according to the Laws of the Game.
The winners of the Carling Knockout tournament will go head-to-head with a Carling All-Star team chosen by the fans in the new format of the Carling Black Label Cup.

One exciting aspect of the Carling Knockout and Carling Cup is the “Fak’iGoal Uzobona” innovation, which translates to “Score a Goal & See the Innovation.” This initiative aims to inject energy into the game, encouraging earlier goals and showcasing the best of South African football.
- At the start of each match, there’s a clock with 90 minutes and R90,000 on it. For every passing minute, R1,000 decreases from the potential prize money, counting down to zero at the end of the match.
- A champion fan who accurately predicts both the team and the minute of the first goal will win the remaining money on the clock.
- Additionally, the team scoring the first goal will also win the amount displayed on the clock. The sooner the goal, the more everyone wins – it’s Fak’iGoal Uzobona!

- Fans can vote for the Man of the Match during the game.
- The standout players who win the Man of the Match title will receive one of the most substantial MOTM cheques on the continent, worth R100,000 for each match.

Carling All-Star Team Voting
Voting for the Carling All-Star team opened on October 13 and runs until December 21, 2023. Champion fans can cast their votes for their favorite players by purchasing selected 750ml or 500ml Carling Black Label, dialing 120660#, and following the on-screen prompts via USSD.
Fans can also vote on the website www.carlingblacklabelcup.co.za. The voting period for the Carling All-Stars closes on December 20, 2023. Terms and conditions apply, and USSD costs 20 cents.
